Pinwheel Sweater for Women elann.com
The adult version of the Round pinwheel sweater is knit identical to the Baby sweater above. This pattern could be easily adapted to fit any size. As shown, the sweater fits small, medium and large. Like the version for children, it can also be worn two ways – as pictured above, with the longer part of the circle below the sleeves, for a long, dressy look, or with the shorter part of the circle below the sleeves for a more casual short jacket look.

R2 and all even number rounds: Knit.
R3: K2 yo, repeat to end of round, making sure you do your last yo on each needle. (6 sts on 1st needle; 12 sts on 2nd needle; 6 sts on 3rd needle).

Change to circular needles when you need to. Continue increasing in this manner, changing colour every 18 rounds. When changing colours, join the new colour, tie the new colour to the old colour, so you don't loose your last yo
Change to your longer circular needles as needed.
Continue until you have 30 st. between increases.
Next Round: knit the first set of 30 stitches and the yo from the round before, place the second set of 30 stitches on a holder, join a new ball of yarn and cast on 30 stitches using a provisional cast on - see below for provisional cast on instructions (this will be the sleeve later), join yarn and continue knitting 4 more sets of 30 stitches plus the yo's from the previous round, slip the next 30 stitches on a holder, join yarn and cast on 30 stitches using a provisional cast on, knit the last 30 stitches and yo from the previous round.
Continue in pattern increasing and changing colour every 18th round until you have 42 stitches in each section.
Change to the following pattern:
Purl 1 round.
Knit 1 round.
Repeat these last 2 rounds 3 times.
On the last knit round increase 1 st. every section by knitting into the front and the back of one stitch. Repeat these 6 rounds maintaining the colour change every 18th round.
Repeat this pattern until the desired size. The sample sweater has 126 rounds and 7 colours, and ends with 49 stitches in each section, 392 stitches total.
Alternate colour loopy edge on adult sweater:
The edge is knit with 5mm needles. Knit 12 rows of I cord on the first 3 stitches using black and then knit 12 rows of I cord on the next 3 stitches using purple.
Knit the row of black I cord together with the next 3 stitches on the sweater, then repeat this with the purple on the next 3 stitches. Continue alternating colour until the last 3 stitches, knit the I cord then bind off these stitches and sew in place.
I-cord on 3 stitches: with your double pointed needles, knit 3 stitches, then slide these 3 stitches to the top end of the needle, pull the yarn left to right tightly behind the stitches, and then knit them again. Repeat this until 12 rows are finished.
With colour #4 (Grape Heather) and 5.5mm double pointed needles, pick up the 30 stitches from each side of the armhole. Knit 10 rounds and decrease as follows: on first 2 stitches ssk, knit to the last 2 stitches in the round, knit 2 together.
Continue this decrease every 10th round 6 more times.
Knit straight until the sleeve measures 17 inches.
The cuff is knit in garter looking stitch, purl 1 round , knit one round.
In the first and 5th purl rounds increase 1 stitch 3 times evenly spaced around the round. Try to stagger where the increases are. Continue evenly until the sleeve is the desired length. Sleeve as pictured is 19 inches. Cast off purlwise on a purl round. This gives a nice finished edge.
Sew in your ends.
